The Gardens
Corbeaux Hollow is a landscape designer’s paradise. Thousands of years ago, a massive glacier shaped this valley, carving rolling terrain with clay bottoms, sandy hills, and rocky outcrops. As the glacier retreated, it created a diverse range of growing conditions—an ideal foundation for a variety of plantings. Join us as we design gardens that celebrate and harmonize with the natural beauty and unique features of this extraordinary landscape.
1 - Hilltop Garden
The Hilltop Garden, the first to greet visitors entering the hollow, features a riot of plants that flourish in sandy soils and full sun. This vibrant space showcases countless plant varieties and offers stunning views of the valley below, offering a picturesque welcome.
2 - Orchard Meadow
A quick stroll from the hilltop garden will take you through an orchard, complete with crab apple, cherry, apple, and apricot trees. Beneath their canopies, a meadow of short grasses dotted with delicate white wildflowers brighten the shaded ground, creating a peaceful, enchanting scene.
3 - Parterre Garden
Rooted in classical French and Italian garden traditions, the parterre garden stands as our most formal and refined outdoor space. Structured by immaculately clipped hedges, it serves as an ideal canvas for showcasing delicate roses, espalier fruit trees, and vibrant perennial beds. Our aim is to craft the perfect setting for events and formal photography.
4 - Potager Garden
The potager garden is a blend of ornamental and edible plants, designed in the French tradition. Both beautiful and functional, the garden serves both aesthetic and culinary purposes, creating an enchanting space where flowers and vegetables coexist.
5 - Rhododendron Allée
A straight path cuts through a collection of vibrant azaleas and rhododendrons, framed by soft-needled white pines and larch, creating a serene corridor of natural beauty.
6 - Birch Allée
Stroll through a charming garden path winding through a grove of white birches, their slender trunks standing against fiery red Osier dogwoods, delicate grasses, and vibrant willows. This is a charming sight in every season, but is especially brilliant in winter. The snow-covered birches, crimson dogwoods, and colorful willows create a magical pathway, showcasing the ever-changing beauty of nature’s artistry.
8- Tall Grass Meadow
An acre-and-a-half circular garden bursts with the vibrant beauty and diversity of the American tall-grass prairie. Waves of native grasses, such as big bluestem and switchgrass, sway in the breeze, interspersed with colorful wildflowers like coneflowers, rattlesnake master, and native sunflowers. This dynamic landscape provides a haven for pollinators and birds of all sorts.
9 - Water Garden
Our first creation is the water garden, a serene pond surrounded by water-loving perennials, trees, and shrubs. Though digging the pond was a challenge, the rewards have been immense. In just one season, it has become a haven for insects, birds, amphibians, and mammals—a perfect spot to relax and connect with nature.
